You know that you’re going to live a rare and exceptional life. You are committed to leaving a powerful legacy behind. You’re not going to play small in life. You have clear standards, values, morals, and goals. You know what you believe in. You know that you’re going to make a huge dent in the universe. You’re going to have a truly amazing life. You’re clear on that vision.
In this training, I provide an example of my goals for the 90-day sprint October 2018-December 2018
Don’t over-attach to the past. Learn from it, but never get stuck there. Always be approaching a future that is bigger and different from your past.
“When a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure.” — Marilyn Strathern There are means goals, and ends goals. There is a law in statistics known as Goodhart’s law, named after the economist Charles Goodhart, which proposes that people often focus on the wrong target, mistakenly believing it was the right metric. If you focus on RESULTS, or IDEAL ENDS, then your PROCESS can become flexible and not rigid. As Tony Robbins said, “Stay committed to your decisions, but stay flexible in your approach.” The bigger and clearer the WHY, the BOLDER the HOW. Don’t get obsessed with specific methods. Stay committed to decisions and be flexible in your approach. What is your goal or DECISION you’ve committed to? What METHOD will get you there fastest? What do you need to focus on THIS WEEK?
What are the FEW THINGS that really make the biggest impact in your life? What are the FEW PEOPLE you need to focus more on? What are the FEW SKILLS you need further maximize? On the flip side: What are the FEW BAD HABITS that are destroying you? What are the FEW DISTRACTIONS that are stopping you? What are the FEW RELATIONSHIPS that are holding you back? Small changes can make a huge impact.
Jim Collins said in Good To Great, "If you have more than three priorities, you have none." Similarly, Greg McKeown in Essentialism said, "You cannot underestimate the unimportance of practically everything." Your PRIORITIES are the clearest reflection of your core values and your aspirations in life.
This short video provides a great exercise for getting clear on your priorities in life. Imagine your own 80th birthday party. What will be your reputation? You don't have to wait to you 80th birthday party to make this vision come true. You simply need to become relentless at defining and living your priorities.
If you’re not clear on what you’re doing, it’s hard to be motivated.
If you want to get immediate progress in your life, you must get clear on what you want, and say “NO” immediately to everything else. The more “successful” you become the harder this will be, unless you create an environment to shield you from everything distractive to your goals.
When you live solely for the moment, you act on impulse. Your behavior is the product of circumstance rather than conscious choice. As a result, you often make regretful decisions. Conversely, when you live for the past—for your memories—you consider how you want to remember the experience you're having. As a result, you live intentionally in the present.
